Do you tip when you go out to a restaurant ?
I used to but don't anymore.
We do.. Have it in my head they are on crap wages to start with.
We tip when we go to a restaurant and have had really good service and good food. I don't believe in tipping when the waiter has been grumpy or the food is late etc etc
It bugs me when they automatically put a service charge on your bill. As a group we went to a restaurant and the service was terrible and the bill came to over £200 and we had to pay a 10% service charge!!!!
But in general we have good experiences so we do tip
I always tip even the takeaway delivery lad gets a tip of at least a pound. I cant help it its just my nature.
Funny thing is I have never recieved a tip myself.
Regards Lucky Jim
allways tip, unless the service is rubbish,my daughter worked at Pheonix city whilst doing her gcse and a levels and it was the tips that boosted her pay. Also allways tip deliveries as i dont think their pay is great and they work late and in bad weather
Depends do i tip in Nandos no ,dont know why just dont, but when the meal and service has been good in other places yes ,,, paperlads at christmas certainly ,, .
more often than not.
Yes I do. Hubby a bit stingy though.
I always leave a tip.
I also ask if this includes the youngsters in the kitchens. Both my children have worked hard in kitchens but it's amazing how many don't pass on the tips to them. The pot washers, trainee chefs etc. all work very hard for a very poor pay and little or no recognition.
I always tip 10% ish, unless the service is bad.
I prefer it when you can add the tip on to the credit card bill though because I never have cash on me.
I usually give the hairdresser a quid or two as well.
I don't tip taxi drivers though - never sure whether I'm supposed to do that?

We do, always wonder how long they have sat before they get a call out, as they are self employed not making anything sat around.
where do we draw the line at who gets a tip, does anyone tip the girl on the till at the check out, she is on minimum wage and has an awful job. does anyone tip the guy walking round sweeping the street - in all weathers. has anyone ever given some "beer money" to the guys driving the limousins during a funeral, and when you go to the cinema do you give the ice cream girl a bit extra.
All good questions, Exile, is it just a matter of tradition who gets a tip and who doesn't? I bet you fall into the same rut as the rest of us though, don't you?
if you mean that I don't tip at all then yes
We sometimes forget to tip in a restaurant and feel dreadful!
We've been know to go running back in when we've remembered in time.
If have heard something that if a service charge is added to your bill you do not have to pay it. I went for a meal with my daughter. A service charge had been added to the bill. She took off the service charge and paid the rest. She then tipped the waiter who had been serving our table.
Usually, providing the service has good - About 10% of the bill.
10% of a penguin's bill is quite a lot
Sorry penguin - hit me if you want

thats what I thought on Friday, got the bill for £46 and was handed the machine, one of those that you have to enter the tip on the machine (which I don't like), so promptly pressed enter a couple of times to skip past. I didn't have any change, so we went on our way.
One to watch are the Girraffe food places, they add a charge automatically !
