Re: Residents Parking - St Annes School Area

I live on Mellalieu st and i am split with whether i would want the permit or not. Not because of football or the hospital they dont really effect us my problem is school times and waiting 45 min to get a parking space every school day really annoys me, so for that i would like them to put permits on our street, but agree that when family or friends come to visit it would be awkward and for that i am not wantin it.

Re: Residents Parking - St Annes School Area

Hello and welcome S.T.
Looks like you got the leaflet!
I suppose the council could allow you to give out 1 extra permit for friends/family who are visiting you. That could work couldn't it?

The leaflet from the council was quite clear that no allowances would be made for visitors, workmen etc., as spare permits often end up in the wrong hands!?!?!

And a warm welcome to ST as well. default/thumb

Re: Residents Parking - St Annes School Area

Hi, Read what everyone else has written and as a resident on Houghton Street i wanted to stick my two peneth in. Firstly if as some believe this is a done deal then why are we having to pay for the privilidge of parking outside our own front door. Secondly what are work men and friends supposed to do are they going to instal parking meters to stop them parking or barb-wire and machine gun turrets. it seems weird that they are going to bring this in just before the football club moves. Does this mean that when latics moves are they then going to scrap the deal, me thinks not default/big_smile why is the charge got to be annual and are they going to tender the job of producing the permits because if they are i want to do it, Mr Palk said the £20 charge would be for admin costs, i think it is a very lucrative earner because by my guesstimate there are lets fall on the side of caution and say 1000 homes involved in the area sorry just takin my shoes and socks off to work this out mmmmm i make that £20,000 annually and as i said i was cautious with the amount of homes i shoved under the blanket so its a tidy sum. First rant over i am sure before this is resolved there will probably be a few more.

Re: Residents Parking - St Annes School Area

The original scheme discussed with Councillor Steve Bashforth was for Carlton Way and its offshoots. Each household would get two permits which were not registration specific and could be used for visitors, workmen etc. A simple scheme, costs would be minimal and involve a few signs and laminated permits. They would be met from B+Q 106 funding.. It had been promised by Bashforth for 18 months or more.

It seems to have been highjacked and transformed into some unrecognisably complicated and expensive dogs dinner. But some would say that that's what council's are for. default/yikes

Re: Residents Parking - St Annes School Area

I live on mellalieu street and i am 100% against this parking proposal.
people park on the street to go and watch the game at weekends and sometimes during the week but its only for a few hours and i dont see the problem in that. I dont see why anyone who lives on the streets concerned should have to pay £20 per car annually its a complete joke.
My biggest gripe is in a morning when the mums and dads are dropping their kids off at st annes. Between 8.45 and 9.00 its virtually impossible to get out of the side streets and onto oldham road for the volume of traffic trying to get in. I wonder how many of them parents live within a mile of the school? Shouldn't the council be looking into that and maybe provde a drop off area on broadway?
If this goes through i will seriously consider moving to another borough where the council doesn't want to fleece me for my last penny.

Couldn't agree with you more Anarchy!   default/roll

I have witnessed the incredible stupidity of these parents
who, as you rightly indicate, block the entrance/exit to
the streets around the school  and then  default/hmm  take it as
their god given right to be allowed to jump into the
stream of traffic on the major road, without the slightest
acknowledgment as to the disruption they cause

Re: Residents Parking - St Annes School Area

Thow do all?

First time on one of these forum things so apologies if I boob.  I’m another Houghton Street resident and I oppose the proposal!  First time I heard about it was the so called opinion poll from the council with pretty specific detailing.  I acknowledge a rise in traffic during school drop off and collections.  This doesn’t affect me personally as I’m always at work before and after, but I can sympathise for those caught up in the school run.  Adds for a bit of window entertainment when I’m on holiday though…..very little ‘give and take’ between parents.

As for the reasons given by the council to reduce congestion caused by the hospital and football…..what?  Possibly a problem in the surrounding streets but not on a fifty mile radius.  Loved N.J.B’s post and completely agree.  Council money spinning exercise.  As for me…..they ain’t getting a penny.  I don’t pay my council tax and road tax so I can pay for myself and visitors to park in front of my house!  Hell, why not TRY and charge me for having a gate or a hanging basket while they’re at it.

All in all, I can’t see this scheme changing much apart from costing local residents money.  If the council or police don’t seem to bother about kids smashing bus shelters or running wildly in the main road I can’t see them policing this.  Do’h, forgot about the fines this would generate…..forest…tree’s.  Don’t think it’s all about serving public or resident interest do you?
