Swearing on the Forum

The eRoyton forum is a “no swearing” zone in order to create a neutral place for people from all backgrounds to get along nicely. Also, many work/school/college computer networks scan webpages for swearwords and block access to the offending websites. So for those 2 reasons, swearing is a no no.

The general rule is that the words “Bloody” and “Crap” are borderline words and you should only use those words if you're really upset and need to vent. Anything worse than those 2 words are not allowed. So that rules out “bastard”, “bugger”, “arse”, “arsed” and anything else on that level or worse.

Phrases like “oh my God” or even “Jesus Christ” are not banned but you are asked to go easy on those kind of phrases so as not to offend others.

Exceptions:
In extreme circumstances (you've just been burgled or attacked for example) swearing may be tolerated at the discretion of the forum moderator.

Disguising swear words:
The practice of disguising swear words using characters such as *!$ etc is also not welcome on the eRoyton forums. For instance saying “I am really P!$$3d off” is not good. Neither is saying ”++++ing hell” or “I'm fed up with those lazy B++++++s”. You must choose a non-swear word instead.

The Tap Room
Borderline swear words will be tolerated in the tap room, but nothing more than borderline please.

General point on swearing
The phrase “You cheeky bugger” is much less offensive than “Bugger off” so it might seem unfair to simply ban the word “bugger” when it can be used in a relatively inoffensive way. So my general point is just to avoid using language that might offend others.

Aggressive or Intimidating posts
This is also not acceptable. I ask that people use the “Report this Post” option if they think someone is being aggressive or intimidating.

Adult Humour / Innuendo
It is of course possible to post adult humour without swearing. This doesn't make it allowable, so please refrain from posting adult humour including the use of innuendo. All of the above is at my discretion. It is not set in stone and exceptions will be allowed in some situations and not others.

Punishments for ignoring the above
A range of punishments are available from

• A loss of karma points
• 24 hour ban
• 48 hour ban
• 1 week ban
• A period of time restricted to the Tap Room only
• A complete life ban with account deleted.
