How to Quote in the Forums

This page is for people who want to learn how to quote someone else's comments as part of their own reply. For example, you've probably seen the following sort of posts.

1. The quick, easy but slightly sloppy way is to simply click the word “QUOTE” that you see directly underneath every single message on the forums. If you click that you get taken to a new page where you can see that the “reply” box contains the comment that you want to quote. You simply then have to start typing underneath that text and then press “Submit” as usual.

2. There is a better way but it is a bit fiddly. As above, click “quote” from underneath any forum message. THEN instead of leaving the entire post intact, what you should learn to do is to delete any part of the quote that is not relevant to what you are about to say. So if you are commenting on only the final sentence of someone's paragraph, you should delete all of the other sentences and just leave the final sentence untouched. WARNING be very careful not to delete the little bits of code that are inserted at the start and end of the text you are quoting from. The code looks like this:

Code at the start of the text
Code at the end of the text
3. The other way to quote is to FIRST use your mouse to select & copy the text that you want to quote. Then paste that text into the reply box at the bottom of each topic. THEN add the following bits of code.
Paste the text you are quoting into here
And that's it.
