For the majority of the forums' life there has been a Karma system in operation. It is designed to allow members to vote each other up or down based on their contributions. In the early days it was very much a fun part of the forum to vote each other up and keep a check on how your score was increasing. The intention was that the forum admin would not have to worry about censoring or moderating too much because if a member was behaving badly then his/her fellow members would vote them down and then action could be taken
If a member reaches a karma score of +20 then s/he is given access to the secret room called the Karma Super room. If a member reaches +100 karma points then s/he is given access to the Karma Super Duper room. The latter room doesn't have many members and posting is quite slow. Members who reach 100 can no longer be voted for, they are immune from the karma system. The idea behind this is that they have already proven that they have good conduct and can be trusted to continue to be respectful to their fellow members. They get to choose a word that is displayed instead of the number 100.
If a member is voted down to -10 then he is nominated for a temporary or permanent ban. A poll is created and forum members vote on the type and severity of punishment that the user should face.
Asking people to vote for you is not allowed. Organised voting of any kind is not allowed. Points must be given and received as discretely as possible.
